Mother's Day, Etc.

Guten tag! Here are some photos from my first Mother's Day, as well as a few stragglers that I just thought were cute. FYI: Mother's Day this year was on the same day as our anniversary (my "mom-aversary" as Nick says), so, as we do every year, we went out to Clinton lake and had a wee picnic on the spot where Nick proposed to me. You can see that the weather contributed to the romance by providing a healthy dose of coldness and drizzling rain.

So here we go.

Below, you'll see Nick offering Zooey a sip of his soda. (She politely declined, opting instead for her usual beverage, which was conveniently on tap.)

Nick offers Z a soda.

This photograph was taken mere moments before a massive poop. Maybe you can tell by her expression?

Zooey at the lake.

As you can see in this picture, Zooey has started drooling quite a bit recently. I'm really hoping this doesn't mean she is about to begin teething. (Apparently I started teething at about 6 weeks, so there is genetic precedent.)

Zooey drooling at the lake.

Try as she might, she just can't keep her eyes away from the food source. "Zooey, honey, my eyes are up HERE."

Zooey peeking at the food source.

Trying . . . and failing . . . to get her to look at the camera.

Look over here, Zooey.

Still trying . . . .

Zooey reaches for my necklace.

Zooey looking cute as she attempts to devour her hand. As a side note, you know what I think of every time she does this? That painting by Goya where Saturn eats his kids for breakfast. I'd link to it, but . . . well, you know. Kinda gross.

Zooey eating her hand.

I made this monster applique and sewed it onto a onesie while I was pregnant. Now, finally, she can fit into the thing.

And finally, here I am reading to Zooey from the Brown Bear book that Aunt Emily got for us. Yay!

Fantastic photos. She is growing so fast...she's changed so much already. She seems to be pretty observant of her environment. I have to admit to being a bit jealous of the teething, if it comes to fruition. Christopher didn't get his first two until he was 8 months...then didn't get another until 13 months...when he got 6! Craziness. She just keeps getting more beautiful every day, my dear friend. Its good to see her growing up so much.

Thomas is right -- she's just growing and changing so much!

The lake scenery looks beautiful, even if it was chilly.

And hurray for Brown Bear! We love that one!! A little low on plot and action, mostly just characters looking at each other. But it has a certain rhythmic quality that's catchy.

Your sweetling baby is doing an excellent job of looking like Nick in these particular pictures--though I think when they're so tiny they sort of morph back and forth between which parent they resemble. Even more when babes look at the camera, I love it when they gaze at their parents like she's doing in these. Why look into space at some "thing" when mama's right in front of you to make lovey-dove eyes at (or to bang your head against in sudden hunger--always sort of goofily charming)?

You look gorgeous, mama--you know she's just going to love these pictures some day and show them to who she loves.

And you know Gus was "Green Frog Looking At Blue Horse" for Halloween this last year? That book makes quite the literary impact on the tiny ones, and Gus still likes to pull it out because he liked it when he "was little."

P.S.

Look at those thigh rolls! Delicious baby! Enjoy the baby dimples and divots and rolls while they last--Gus has really started to stretch out and when I noticed the other day that his feet were long and arched and have almost lost their toe dimples it made me very sniffy.

There's just something about Blue Horse, isn't there? That's the one that seems to hold Zooey's attention for the longest each time I read it to her. She stares and stares at it, like she's expecting it to go galloping off the page. And Mary Ann, I remember that wonderful costume you made for Gus. It was perfect! Gus is very lucky to have such a crafty mama.

As for the banging the head against me when she wants to nurse, Nick and I like to call that the "hungry head butt." :D

Thomas: Wow, I didn't realize Christopher got 6 teeth all at once....yikes! He doesn't do anything halfway, does he?

Emily: Do you have any other favorites of Cooper's to recommend? Brown Bear was certainly a big winner (where big winner is defined as "holds the attention longer than all other comparable books")!
